  • I'm going to Chiang Mai in two weeks. 过两个星期我要到清迈去。 “in two weeks: 过两个星期” in在将来时的句子中，可译为“…之后”, 在一般的句子中，可译为 “…之内”。
  • I wonder if it's similar to the water festival of the Dai people in Yunnan Province. 我想知道这与云南傣族人民的泼水节是否相似。 If引导的句子作wonder的宾语，因此也叫宾语从句。“be similar to: 与…相似”。
  • Chinese people have been celebrating Mid-Autumn Festival and enjoying mooncakes for centuries. 千百年来中华儿女一直过中秋、吃月饼。 “have been doing是现在完成进行时的结构，现在完成进行时用来表示动作从过去某一点开始，一直不间断地持续到现在。

  • How he wished that Chang'e could come back! 他是多么期望嫦娥能够回到他身边啊! 这是一个感叹句， 这里用how来强调动词wished. 英语的感叹句如果强调动词，只需在陈述句前面直接加上how, 然后把后面的句号改为感叹号就行了。
  • I wonder if children over there also give similar gifts to their parents. 我不知道那里的孩子是否也给他们的父母类似的礼物。“over there: 那里。在这里指的那里是(美国)大洋彼岸的中国。
  • It is also a good idea to help parents to do something instead. 帮助父母做些事也是一个不错的主意。 句中的“it”是形式主语，真实主语是 “to help parents to do something instead”. 所以我们翻译的时候，翻译真实主语，而不翻译形式主语。“instead：代替”这里指“帮父母做事”代替“给父母买礼物”。 代替的意思通常不翻译出来。
  • He just cares about whether he can make more money. 他只关心自己能否赚到更多的钱。 “whether he can make more money”引导了一个宾语从句作care about的宾语。
  • He also gives gifts to people in need. 他还把礼物送给需要的人们。介词短语in need意思是“贫穷的，有难的，需帮助的” 修饰people.

      How happy we were! (比较: we were very happy. )
      How well they sang! (比较: They sang very well. )
