一、课文理解检测
When you visit a country, it is important to know how to ask for help . For example, “Where are the restrooms?” or “Could you please tell me where the restrooms ?” are requests for directions to a place. Both are English, the first one sounds polite. That is because it is a very question. It is not to just ask a question correctly. We also need to learn to be polite by being less direct — or more indirect — when we ask for .
课后阅读
Are you still looking for that place?
Jack worked in an office in a small town. One day his boss said to him: “Jack, here are some important letters for Mr. Black. I want you to go to London to see him and give him the letters. Here's the address. His office is near the station.”
Jack went to London by train When he got off the train, he thought: “The office isn't far from here. I'll find it easily.”
But after an hour he was still looking for Mr. Black's office, because he had never been there before. So he stopped to ask an old woman where the office was. She said kindly, “Go along this street, turn to the left at the end, and is the second building on the right.” Jack thanked her and then he went and found it.
A few days later, Jack went to the same city on business, but again he couldn't find the office, so he had to ask the way again. It was the same old woman! She was very surprised and asked: “Are you still looking for that place?”
